The UH Warriors have won their fifth straight game, behind another
bend-but-not-break performance by the UH Defense. Despite giving
up 181 yards rushing, the Warrior Defense held the San Jose State
Spartans to ten points. The Defense came up with three timely
interceptions - two by cornerback Kevin Millhouse, and one in the
Hawaii End Zone by Jacob Espiau, to thwart a Spartan scoring threat.
The first three
quarters of the game was a war of attrition as the Spartan ground game
kept the UH offense off the field. The San Jose offense
controlled the ball for almost 40 minutes of the 60 minute game,
including a whopping 12-plus minutes in the third quarter. The
Warrior offense stuttered in the first half, scoring only one
touchdown on three possessions within the Spartan 20 yard line.
It wasn't until the midway in the third quarter when the Warrior
offense awoke to score three touchdowns on three quick touchdown
drives. Held in check most of the night, running back Thero
Mitchell waltzed into the end-zone on runs of 18 and 20 yards.
Quarterback Nick Rolovich had one of the quietest 300 yard passing
games ever - crossing the mark with a 39 yard pass to Justin Colbert
late in the fourth quarter.
Game balls in this
game were hard to give out since there were not many outstanding
individual performances. Is this a bad thing? No, on a night
where Ashley Lelie was held to two receptions, and the Defense was
without starters Pisa Tinoisamoa and Abraham Elimimian, the Warriors
stepped up and showed that they can play team ball. The special
teams also came up big, with Justing Ayat booming the ball in the
end-zone for three touchbacks, and Punter Matt McBriar finally living
up to expectations with three booming punts. On this night, the
game balls go to the offense, defense, and the special teams.

no Hawaii411 "Da Man" Award? Of course there is.
This weeks award goes to the Kelvin "No Simpsons
Jokes" Millhouse for his two interceptions. The
Defense is coming on strong and getting turnovers to keep us in
the game. At the start of the season, he couldn't even
catch a cold, let alone an interception. Now he's turning into a
legitimate coverage man. Finally, a cornerback with some
size. Hopefully, this recognition might get his picture on
the official UH athletic site, so we don't have to resort to
photo manipulation. |
