As soon as the first Amateur Fighting Competition was over, people were asking promoters Ray and Monica Cooper when the next one would be. Well fight fans, ask and ye shall receive - AFCII is here. On a hot and humid Wednesday night at Jesus is Lord Gym in Waipahu, we weathered a termite invasion to bring the AFCII Weigh-ins to you.
A who's who of MMA veterans were in attendance at the weigh-ins. Besides the obvious presence of
Ray "Bradda" Cooper, were such notables as AFCII referee Ron "Machine Gun" Juhn, Kai Kamaka and the 808 Fight Factory Crew, Bob Ostovich, and Brennan Kamaka. Kawika Pa`aluhi looked as intimidating as ever, showing the amateurs that there's a long road ahead to get to the professional level.
As an example oh what the AFC may lead to, Stephen "Bozo" Palling was back from an impressive May 5th 30 sec TKO victory over noted opponent Norifumi Yamamoto in Japan. Palling now holds a #3 Shooto ranking.
Cooper went over the fight rules with the contestants and stressed the need for sportsmanship. The weigh-ins went as follows:
From the looks of things, we anticipate AFC2 to be full of action and
intensity. After all, anytime 16 hungry, up and coming fighters meet up in
the ring, you know it's going to be an exciting night.
